Una Historia De Vida !!
My story began at the end of 2019 when I was finally able to realize my personal dream since arriving in this country: having my own business. I had already been an insurance agent for a year and was looking to grow. At that moment I had more drive and determination than experience but I was not going to let anything stand in the way of my achieving the American Dream. I worked long, hard hours doing everything necessary to finally open my own agency. After a while, a very close group of friends and I planned to open our door, but unfortunately we started early. During this time, we can all remember the increasingly uncomfortable reports about what became the COVID-19 pandemic; Everything was closed to the public, even our new agency. It was with great strength, a close group of friends and a loyal customer base that we continued to do business virtually. For a whole year we were “open” but we did not accept any clients. By mid-2021, the entire country was beginning to feel like the worst was behind us. Then reports of the Delta variant began to circulate and at some point he acquired the virus. I was very confused because I had little to no contact with anyone throughout 2020 and 2021. The illness was like any other cold, in some ways even milder. My husband and I had all the symptoms and we weren't worried. We believed that we would improve in a short time. However, after five days it started to get worse. My breathing became weaker and it hurt to inhale. My muscles hurt and I nearly collapsed on several occasions. Walking was an arduous task. I arrived at the emergency room on August 3, 2021 and did not leave the hospital until January 22, 2022. It was six long months of intensive care. My husband did what he could to help with my agency, but it was inevitable, my business finally closed its doors in November 2021 in my absence.
I was lucky because, as an insurance agent, I believed enough in my own product to have accident and critical illness coverage. It was this that helped me cover all my office expenses, as well as the second apartment my husband needed to rent when I was transferred to Orlando to await a double lung transplant due to damage caused by the disease. Lucky and grateful are too small words to truly capture the feeling I have for all my family, friends and loyal customers who decided to stay with me while I couldn't serve them. I honestly believe that if it weren't for the insurance industry, I would still have experienced the miracle of being completely cured and not needing the transplant. But I would have been left with so much debt that I honestly don't know how long it would have taken me to get back. I say this because, once again, I set out to open another office and start where I left off. To offer to everyone who is willing to listen to my testimony. Let them know that determination is important but having the right people and circumstances is also very important. In my case, the right policy helped my family focus on what mattered, not just money.
